Synopsis & Storyline

Ding Dong Daddy (1942)

Ding Dong Daddy is a 1942 Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Friz Freleng and written by Tedd Pierce.

The story follows Willoughby, a lovesick dog who falls for a female dog statue named Daisy without realizing she is made of metal. Every time he kisses her, a lightning shock hits him, which Willoughby mistakes for a sign that she loves him back.

Things get even crazier when Daisy is taken away as scrap metal for the wartime effort. Willoughby chases after her and eventually finds a bomb with her name on it, leading to the cartoon’s final gag.
