Why This Film Matters
A Man Betrayed is an interesting movie in the sense that it was the first film of director John H. Auer at republic pictures following the merger with liberty pictures. Less than an hour reflects the trademark of the studio of fast-moving, low-budget dramas with a lot of twists. The combination of corporate crime, wrong conviction and a twist plot of the unlikely boxing lead makes it one of the other crime thrillers of the time.
To lovers of classical crime movies, this movie can be viewed as a reflection of how the smaller producers managed to compete with the Hollywood titans with quick, enjoyable plots.
