Uncover the dark history of The Phantom of the Opera (1925), the silent horror movie, with Lon Chaney. The story is a cold account of obsession, love and music under the Paris Opera House.
Introduction
There are not many silent movies that have been able to survive the time like The Phantom of the Opera (1925). With the iconic appearance of a great movie star Lon Chaney in one of the most recognizable roles in the history of this movie genre, this gothic horror movie in Paris Opera House has amazed viewers almost a century. It has memorable make-up, lavish sets, and a heavy air of mystery, which makes this movie a pillar of early American horror.
Plot Summary
When unusual accidents are occurring around the Paris Opera House, there are rumors of the existence of a ghost who haunts the catacombs. The object of the obsession of the phantom is Christine Daae, an up-and-coming soprano. When prima donna Carlotta is pushed aside, Christine is the one who takes the leading role in the opera–little does she realize that she is the dancing doll being pulled by a disfigured man who is residing under the opera house. The Phantom, who is only known as Erik, will stop at nothing to bring her stardom… or his bride. Christine is haunted by a tormented soul of Michael Myers, and her suitor, Raoul, a secret investigator, has to go into the underground cave to rescue her before it is time to leave.
