Jack and the Beanstalk (1952) is a color version of the typical fairy tale by Abbott and Costello. The legendary comedy duo is back in this public-domain free family comedy filled with laughs, fantasy, and classic appeal.

Introduction

Jack and the Beanstalk (1952) is one of the most successful movies in terms of mixing laughter with fantasy. Plot Summary

The awkward courtship of Polly (Dorothy Ford) leaves Jack and Polly with a strange job to babysit a girl, Eloise Larkin (Shaye Cogan). Their evening however soon becomes wild courtesy of the younger brother, Eloise, Donald (David Stollery) a child genius who manages to outwit Jack at every move.

In an attempt to make Donald calmed down, Jack picks up the old fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk, but falls asleep soon, and the story appears alive in his dream.

Jack is the fairy-tale hero in his fantasy, a poor farm boy who is supposed to sell the last cow of the family. He is fooled into the possession of the cow by the machinations of the unscrupulous Mr. Dinklepuss who exchanges the cow with five magic beans. The beans multiply prodigally into a giant beanstalk to the castle of the Giant in the clouds overnight.

Jack and Dinklepuss ascend the beanstalk, dangerously, greedily, and comically threatened by the Giant (Buddy Baer), in order to save the kidnapped Princess (also portrayed by Shaye Cogan). They flee along with the Princess, the Prince and the magical hen that lays golden eggs with the assistance of the kind housekeeper Polly. Jack cuts the beanstalk as they race down it and the Giant is doomed to his Death, only to wake up in the real world after a couple of blows on the head as he continues to think he is a hero of a fairy-tale.
