This movie is set on the context of the Second Boer War in a combination of childhood curiosity and the adult themes of loss, survival, and reconciliation. It was released in 20th Century Fox, and it is a valuable part of the history of cinema – and it is now free to watch in the possibility of the common people.
📚 Plot Summary
Captain Crewe (Ian Hunter) leaves his young daughter Sara (Shirley Temple) with the School of girls run by Miss Minchin, when he is summoned to fight in the Second Boer War. Being spoiled by the richness of her father, Sara lives the life of the privileged and even takes her favorite pony with her.
But joy soon turns to sorrow. The news comes about her father is dead and has lost his wealth at her big birthday party. To make things even worse, Miss Minchin causes Sara to lose her status as a star pupil and becomes a servant. Sara is a nice heart even though she is treated harshly, and she makes new friends (one of them being Ram Dass, the kind man who lives next door played by Cesar Romero).
Sara does not want to accept that her father is really dead and starts seeking hospitals. In the meantime, one of the injured and unknown patients who repeats her name can be the key to such a miracle reunion. After being visited by the Queen Victoria unexpectedly and successfully escaping the hospital, Sara finally gets to find out that her father is alive that is why the ending works out to be a tearful and a joyful one that will be able to melt even the coldest of the hearts.
