It is based on a stage play of the same title by James B. Allardice which featured on Broadway, 1948-49. Some of the actors that featured in the play (such as Mike Kellin and Kenneth Forbes) played the same roles in the film.

Fun fact: Martin and Lewis only earned a small amount of money in exchange of 90 percent of the profit. Nevertheless, they had to forgo any financial interest in the film due to legal disputes in the future, which was one of the reasons why the film was later donated to the public domain.
