Fun, romance, and a lot of action – McLintock! (1963) is one of the classics of comedy western films with John Wayne and Maureen O Hara. Loose adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew, this film is currently available to watch or download via the legal streaming or downloading services.

🎬 A Western With A Witty Kick

A cross between comedy, cowboy romp, McLintock! (1963) gathers the earthy flair of John Wayne with the scheriffing and slapstick mayhem. Under the guidance of Andrew V. McLaglen and produced by Batjac Productions, a company owned and operated by Wayne himself, the movie is a free adaptation of Shakespeare, The Taming of the Shrew, but with increased fist fighting, banjo playing, and spankings with a coal-shovel. Framed by the expansive landscapes of Arizona, McLintock! is one of the humorous films of the illustrious career of Wayne.

🤠 Trouble on the Range: Plot Synopsis.

George Washington McLintock (John Wayne) is a cattle baron who is both a town hero and a man who has lost his wife, Katherine because of his temper. Being an active rancher and at the same time, a political meddler, G.W. is in a mixed up mess when his estranged wife reappears, demanding divorce and possession of their college bound daughter, Becky.

Becky comes with her boyfriend “Junior” Douglas an anxious banjo player, and soon falls in love with Dev, particularly after a coal-shovel incident. In the meantime the town is locked in a standoff between McLintock and the pompous Governor Humphrey who threatens to evict the local Comanche tribe.

This is followed by a comedic series of fistfights, frontier justice, and romantic chases – which hits its climax with a notoriously drunken mudhole brawl and a coal-shovel duel between G.W. and Katherine that solidifies the deal on their hot romance.
