Fatty Arbuckle was a pioneer of screen comedy, a real pioneer, before the silence before the scandal. His Wedding Night (1917) is a comic short film featuring his genius, the up and coming stars of Buster Keaton and Al St. John.
It is a silent comedy crackling with physical humour of the zaniest type, confusion of cross-dress, and soda-fountain mayhem of the old fashioned type–all in 20 minutes. It is a headlong rush towards the type of riot that Arbuckle and his team alone could bring.
📝 Plot Summary
Roscoe (Fatty Arbuckle) is a man behind the counter at a small-town drugstore, where he serves soda, and sarcasm, as well as he serves soda. Customers visit to have refreshing drinks, however the actual concern of Roscoe is Alice, the store clerk who is very pretty.
Introduce another competitor to the love (Al St. John) who is not delighted by Fatty courting Alice. In a weird turn of events, a joke causes Roscoe to wear a dress, and he is then confused with Alice and taken away by the jealous rival. The result? A comic misunderstanding with wrong identification, wild-frenzied escapades and slapstick foolishness, and all this is leading to an absurd and unforeseen wedding night.
