Full Plot Summary
Roy Rogers plays a traveling horse trader and leather goods salesman who arrives at the Golden Horse Ranch. He wants to breed his fine mare, Lady, with rancher Gabby Kendrick’s prized stallion, Golden Sovereign. Gabby refuses to breed his stallion with any other horse because he wants to use his own horses for breeding.
Brett Scoville who owns both a ranch and a casino desires to possess Golden Sovereign. He arranges to steal the horse for breeding with his own mare. During the theft, Golden Sovereign escapes to the hills where he discovers Lady and they engage in a romantic equine encounter.
A posse searches for the stallion. Scoville “accidentally” shoots Golden Sovereign when a wild stallion attacks. Roy arrives, chases Scoville away, but can’t identify him. Authorities blame Roy for the killing. He jumps bail and flees on Lady.
Months later, Lady gives birth to Golden Sovereign’s colt. Roy names him Trigger and trains him into a magnificent horse. He returns to the Kendrick ranch offering Trigger as a gift to make amends. Gabby rejects it, and Roy goes to jail as a fugitive.
